What is your favorite memory or expeience at SSU?

One of my favorite memories at SSU was in the summer of 2024, when I served as an ambassador for the Swedish student international exchange program, in which the Criminal Justice Club had the chance to participate. It was incredibly rewarding to help the Swedish students settle in, introduce them to our campus, and share insights about criminal justice topics from both cultural perspectives. This experience allowed me to share my passion for the field while learning about different approaches to criminal justice worldwide.

What has been the most challenging part of your college experience and what did you learn from it?

The most challenging part of my college experience has been balancing multiple roles and responsibilities, like managing my coursework, leading the Criminal Justice Club, and taking on additional commitments. It’s been a test of time management and prioritization. I learned the importance of setting boundaries and knowing when to ask for help, which has taught me resilience and improved my organizational skills. This experience has shown me how to handle challenges while staying committed to my goals and the people around me.

What brought you to SSU, and what motivates you to stay?

What brought me to SSU was its strong criminal justice program, and the welcoming, tight-knit community really appealed to me. I participated in the Summer Bridge program and joined the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which helped me transition into college life and provided valuable resources. I was looking for a place where I could explore my passion for criminal justice, make connections, and be close to home, and SSU felt like the perfect fit. What motivates me to stay is the incredible support I’ve found here from faculty who encourage me to pursue my goals to the connections I’ve made through the Criminal Justice Club. Each opportunity, like participating in international exchange programs and leading club initiatives, continues to inspire me and makes SSU feel like home.

Who at SSU has influenced you and/or made an impact on your journey here?

One of the most influential people at SSU for me has been Professor Bryan Burton. As a Criminal Justice Studies professor specializing in white collar crime, he has taught me so much about the complexities of the field. His guidance as the advisor for the Criminal Justice Club has been invaluable, and he has helped me navigate challenges and encouraged my personal and academic growth. What I appreciate most is how he always checks in on me to ensure I’m academically in good standing and, more importantly, that I’m doing okay personally. His genuine care and support have made a lasting impact on my journey here, inspiring me to pursue my interests in criminal justice more deeply.
