Haddie Daner
My mission statement here at Sonoma State is to be as friendly/inclusive to everyone and to make each person feel safe and at home.
Hello! My name is Haddie Daner my pronouns are she/her/hers. I was adopted from Guangzhou, China in 2001 and raised in Atascadero, California. I am currently a first-year student majoring in business administration hoping to focus on a concentration in wine business strategies. I lived in a Jewish household with my mom, younger brother, and an identical twin sister. My mission statement here at Sonoma State is to be as friendly/inclusive to everyone and to make each person feel safe and at home. The best way I demonstrate this is by going to the Cafeteria alone at least two to three times a week and sit by someone whose alone and strike up a friendly conversation that once went on for over an hour.
Here at Sonoma State University, I am involved in two organizations, two clubs, and one job. To start, I am the Verdot Village Council President. My goals / duties consist of working together with my Verdot Village Council board and the Residential Housing Association to help create and put on fun programs / events for the residents who live in Verdot Village. I am also a new sister of Phi Sigma Sigma’s Iota Xi Chapter, which is a sorority Sonoma State has. We host events to raise money for our philanthropy and work on creating relational skills within the chapter and community. I am a member of Hillel of Sonoma County a club that promotes spiritual inclusivity and faith. I am also a member of SSU’s Business Management Club. We meet and discuss ways to build our resume and listen to guest speakers talk about their companies and leadership skills they possess to be successful. My on-campus job is working at the front desk at the SSU Campus Rec. I swipe cards and rent equipment to participants and enjoy wishing them a “good workout” and “great day.”
Challenges I have faced here at SSU are stress and sleep deprivation. When these two occur I get cysts that appear on my face and are very visible. To overcome my challenges I try my best to get enough sleep and meditate on my own. As for the cysts, I see doctors in Santa Rosa and don’t let my appearance define who I am. I instead focus on the positives I have in life and at SSU.
A positive experience at SSU is the cafeteria’s chocolate chip pancakes made on Thursday or Friday mornings, which never fail to make my day even better. Another positive experience I’ve had at SSU includes how personable the staff is. I call all my teachers by their first name and find that to be a very personal relationship as they too call me by my first name and not my last. Specifically, I have grown close with my English teacher and we give each other a hug after class and wish each other a great weekend. This close relationship that I never expected to have in college.
