What were your campus involvements at SSU?

As a proud alumna of Sonoma State University and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, my time at SSU was transformative. The values of community engagement and social responsibility shaped my approach to making an impact both on campus and in my career.

The bonds I formed, especially with my big sister, continue to resonate in my life today. Our sisterhood, which has lasted beyond graduation, inspired me to advocate for inclusivity and kindness.

Now, as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UCSF, I carry those values with me. My Gamma Phi Beta experience ignited my passion for creating change, and the principles of compassion and connection continue to guide my work in building a more inclusive and equitable environment.

How has Sonoma State made an impact in your life today?

Sonoma State University has profoundly shaped my personal and professional journey. The academic environment fostered critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, laying the foundation for my career. The faculty encouraged me to engage deeply with my studies, sparking a lifelong love of learning.

My involvement in Gamma Phi Beta Sorority enriched my experience, instilling values of sisterhood, service, and social responsibility. The leadership skills and friendships I developed continue to influence me today.

SSU also instilled a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which I carry into my role as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UCSF. Sonoma State grounded me in empathy, resilience, and advocacy, values that continue to guide me as I work to uplift others.

What advice would you give to a current student or recent graduate?

Build meaningful connections, stay curious, and continue learning beyond graduation. Get involved in your community, advocate for yourself and others, and don’t be afraid to face setbacks—they’re opportunities for growth. Prioritize balance, self-care, and take time for what rejuvenates you. As you progress, remember to give back, whether through mentorship or supporting causes close to your heart. Embrace this exciting phase with an open mind, stay resilient, and trust that your journey will unfold in ways you never imagined.
