Head Men’s Basketball Coach, De Anza College (2005–22, Retired)
What were your campus involvements at SSU?
Sonoma State Men's Basketball Team (1993-95)
Why did you choose to attend SSU?
I was fortunate to be offered a spot on the men's basketball team by Coach Dick Walker, and I chose SSU because it felt like the best fit for me academically and geographically.
How has Sonoma State made an impact on your life today?
I owe so much to Sonoma State University. During my time there, I was a member of the men’s basketball team, where I built lasting relationships and friendships that continue to this day. It’s also where I met my wife, who was a fellow student. In many ways, I “grew up” at Sonoma State. The faculty and staff played a pivotal role in shaping me into the professional, coach, and teacher I became after leaving SSU.
What advice would you give to a current student or recent graduate?
My advice would be to first find something you’re truly passionate about, then pursue it wholeheartedly. Seek out experienced individuals in that field — ask questions and be a sponge. Surround yourself with positive, driven people who have experienced success and want to see you succeed. Stay focused, avoid shortcuts, and never take “no” for an answer.
