How did you end up going into your current role or field and what do you enjoy most about the work you do?

I discovered my passion for Student Affairs, particularly academic advising, during my Master’s program, where I realized my calling was to support students in achieving their dream of a college education. From the start, I knew Sonoma State University's Advising Center was where I wanted to be. In 2001 I joined SSU, which quickly became my home away from home. What I find most fulfilling in this role is the ability to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, especially during their most challenging times. Helping students regain stability and refocus on their education is not just a responsibility—it’s a privilege.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Sonoma State community?

The opportunity to build meaningful relationships across campus, with the shared goal of supporting students, is truly rewarding. The unwavering commitment of this community to helping students thrive and achieve their educational goals motivates me to be a stronger advocate. What inspires me most about this campus is the people and the deep sense of community dedicated to student success.

What do you find most fulfilling about working in higher education?

I value the collaboration with faculty, staff, and leadership to develop initiatives that enhance student success and create a more inclusive, supportive environment. At the core of my work is a genuine passion for empowering students. Helping them navigate obstacles so they can achieve their educational goals and build a brighter future is what drives me every day. Additionally, my involvement in governance, my previous work with my staff union, and broader institutional efforts has allowed me to contribute to meaningful changes within the higher education system.

In what ways does your work make an impact on students, the campus or the broader campus community?

Throughout my tenure at Sonoma State University, I have been dedicated to student success, institutional advocacy, and cross-campus collaboration. My work spans academic advising, basic needs coordination, policy development, and leadership, all aimed at fostering an equitable, student-centered environment. By building strategic partnerships, I have strengthened student services, retention initiatives, and basic needs programs which ensure students have the support necessary to thrive. I remain committed to ensuring Sonoma State University is a place where all students feel supported, empowered, and equipped to achieve their goals.
