What were your campus involvements at SSU?

As a working student at SSU, balancing academics and work limited my participation in traditional campus activities. However, I stayed engaged by attending events, supporting student initiatives, and contributing where I could. Whether assisting with events, helping peers, or joining community efforts, I remained an active presence on campus. These experiences enriched my time at SSU and strengthened my commitment to supporting others and staying connected to the university.

How has Sonoma State made an impact in your life today?

Sonoma State University profoundly shaped my life and career, providing the education and skills essential to my success. My studies in Criminal Justice Administration and Public Administration laid the foundation for my work in government, law, and education.

SSU equipped me with critical thinking, leadership, and analytical skills that have been invaluable in my roles. Today, I serve as Chief Deputy Public Administrator for Marin County, manage my own law practice, Rhodes Law, and teach at Santa Rosa Junior College. These achievements stem from the strong academic foundation and opportunities SSU provided.

I am deeply grateful for my time at SSU, which instilled in me a commitment to public service and lifelong learning. The university gave me the tools to build a fulfilling career and continues to influence my path forward.

What advice would you give to a current student or recent graduate?

My advice to graduates is to never underestimate perseverance and adaptability. Career paths are rarely straight lines—challenges and detours will come, but each is an opportunity for growth. Stay resilient, focus on your goals, and remain open to new opportunities.

In my own journey, balancing full-time work and studies at SSU taught me time management and the value of persistence. I also stress the power of networking—building connections can open doors and provide valuable guidance.

Most importantly, be patient with your career. Success takes time, and your path may evolve in unexpected ways. Keep learning, stay committed to your values, and trust the process.
