What is your favorite memory or experience at SSU?

My favorite memory at SSU is of competing in the 2024 NASA Lunabotics competition in Florida. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to apply my engineering knowledge to a real-world challenge, work alongside talented peers, and represent Sonoma State on a national stage. The experience not only reinforced my passion for engineering, but also deepened my connection to SSU’s mission of fostering innovation and teamwork.

What has been the most challenging part of your college experience and what did you learn from it?

The most challenging part of my college experience has been managing my time effectively. Balancing my academic responsibilities with my NASA research work, my service at Sonoma State Police, my involvement in the Civil Air Patrol, and other commitments has required a great deal of organization and discipline. It has been a constant challenge to juggle multiple roles, but it has taught me valuable lessons in prioritization and time management. I’ve learned how to stay focused, plan ahead, and adapt quickly to shifting demands. Ultimately, this challenge has helped me develop skills that will be essential in both my academic and professional future.

What brought you to SSU, and what motivates you to stay?

I was drawn to Sonoma State University partly because of its proximity to my mom’s house, which made it an ideal location for my academic journey. What motivates me to stay at SSU are the opportunities I have with my current jobs and projects, including my work with the Sonoma State Police and involvement in NASA Engineering Projects. Additionally, I’ve built a strong network with my professors and the broader Sonoma State community, which has been incredibly valuable. I also love the beauty of Sonoma County, and I’m passionate about volunteering with the U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol in the region, contributing to cadet programs, emergency services, and particularly search and rescue missions in Sonoma and Sacramento counties. The support system I have here is another key factor that keeps me motivated to stay and continue pursuing my goals.

Who at SSU has influenced you and/or made an impact on your journey here?

Chief Nader Oweis, Ms. Aimee Studer, Dr. Nansong Wu, and Ms. Alma Sanchez have each made a meaningful impact on my experience at SSU. Chief Oweis has strengthened my leadership skills and instilled in me the value of community service. Ms. Aimee Studer has guided me in my role as a student ambassador with the SSU Police Department, shaping my perspective and approach toward the diverse communities on campus. Dr. Nansong Wu, as both my professor and research advisor, has challenged me academically, particularly in advancing my engineering knowledge within the NASA Lunabotics program. Ms. Alma Sanchez, through her work in EOP, has offered valuable support, guiding me through academic and personal challenges with resources and encouragement. Each of them has contributed uniquely to my growth and achievements at SSU. I'm forever grateful to them!
