Please reflect on why you chose SSU.

I chose SSU because it allowed me to explore a lot of things--writing, Russian literature (I taught a class on 19th century writers in my senior year), music. I had dropped in and out of college several times and found it hard to focus. I recall I saw the sign for the alternative major in English and went in to see Dick Hendrickson, the head of that department and said "You mean you will give me credit for doing what I am doing right now--writing and reading etc.?" He said "You are just the type of student we are looking for!" And that was that!

What is one piece of advice you'd give your college self?

Very little is irrevocable at college age. Be open to exploring alternative paths. 

What does life look like now after graduating from SSU?

After I graduated, I went to law school--but promised myself that if after five years I wasn't happy, I'd do something else. I renewed that five year plan many times since!
